Unicorn Pop-Up Oval Card with i-crafter New Release

I absolutely LOVE the card I am sharing with you today! i-crafter has a fantastic new release today, I am showing off the new Box Pops Oval Base die and Box Pops Unicorn Add-On!

These fun dies fit into a normal A2 envelope and can be combined in so many neat ways.

I started by die cutting the unicorn out from Sweet Sentiment's white paper, it's got a faint shimmer to it and is Copic friendly, so it lends well to coloring a unicorn! I chose shades from the Violet family of Copic markers to color the unicorn. I used a silver marker to color the horn. I used a fabric backed sheet of glitter to cut out the unicorn's mane and tail.

Next, I built my base, the Box Pops Oval Base die got cut out twice, from this adorable cloud paper that I wish I could remember the brand of. I thought it would be super cute for the unicorn to be walking on clouds and this paper was perfect for that.

As I assembled the box, I added the star inserts from the Box Pops Unicorn Add-On to the the base. The stars were cute from white glitter paper. I saved the little stars that ended up as a by product of the inserts to add around the sentiment.

I used the "stay magical" sentiment dies from the Box Pops Unicorn Add-On die set for the sentiment and cut it out of some silver mirrored cardstock. I finished the card off by adding several large silver mirrored cardstock stars and little white glitter paper stars using the Box Pops Unicorn Add-On die set.

Personally, I think this creation is straight up magical! I hope that you think so too! i-crafter Kokeshi Dress Up Scrapbook Page

I am so excited to to join the i-crafter Inspiration Team! 

Today, we are releasing a whole new line of Japan inspired products. This line up is gorgeous and SO much fun to create with! I am showing off a scrapbook page that I made for my sister-in-law using the new i-crafter Kokeshi Dress Up Dolls.  Her sister and nieces live in Japan, and these little dolls were perfect to use on a page to remind her of them.

First, I cut the pieces of the dolls' body and hair from plain Copic paper and then used Copic markers to color them up. For the skin, I used E21, E11, E13, E15, & E04 with R22 for the blush. I used E27, E77, E47, E37, & E57 for the hair. 

I used mostly papers from HAI Direct and a few scraps for the doll clothes and added shadows to them using Copic Gray W01, W0, & W00. I added foam tape behind the draped part of the sleeves to add some dimension. On the red paper, it is harder to see the shadows, but on the white paper, it shows up more!

I backed the girls with some pretty, sparkly blue paper and hand cut a trim around them. I used a purple cardstock to back the photos of the girls. 

 I used pieces from the i-crafter Mini Album, Accordion die set to create a little notebook page with the same purple cardstock that I had backed the photos of the girls with. Next, I took the i-crafter Alphabet, Carly dies and spelled out "Auntie Charissa's Little Girls" in a shiny, holographic cardstock. I backed the notebook page with a piece of thin foam to give it some dimension.

My final touch was a trio of Cherry Blossoms from the i-crafter Cherry Blossom Bursts dies to add some delicate embellishments to the page. 

I absolutely love the Japan inspired products in the January i-crafter release. Lynda used her heritage and family history to bring us such beautiful things to create with. Be on the look out for more creations from me using them later this month!

Happily Afterlife!

Hello Friends!

I am so excited to show you my card for the June Kindred Stamps Release! I used the new Happy Afterlife set and the Manor Haunts set for a really fun light-up card. 

I started by coloring up the ghosties in the car from Happy Afterlife. Normally, I don't write down my "recipes" but for this one, I did. Just for you guys. I used Copic Markers.

Ghosties:

BG32 - BG11 - BG10 - BG000 - BG0000

Car:

Exterior Black 100 - W10 - W7 -W5 - W3

Interior Special Black 110 - N7 - N4

Handle Bar Black 100 - C10 - C7

Next, I colored up the maid in the Manor Haunts, I did a dark blue-green blend for her dress and drew in some stripes. 

I also colored up a couple people from Science Geeks, this gal looked like a girl on her honeymoon, and the guy looked like he might be in love with her. I paper pieced both of their shirts from the Kindred Stamps Day in the Park Paper Pack.I added an adorable headband from Park Cuties to finish her off. For him, I added some Tonic Nuvo Glaze to his glasses to make them glossy.

Then I started to build! I knew that I wanted to make the ghosties light up, so I broke out a set of EZ-Lights. I stamped the Happy Afterlife image in black ink on my black paper, then cut out where the ghosts faces landed. I outlined where they would land on my card base and then built pockets around the lights using doubled up foam tape. This made sure the lights would be shining directly through the faces. 

Next, I used the purple damask style paper from the Day in the Park Paper Pack and cut about a 2 1/4" x 4 1/16" piece for the right side, and added a small strip of black to the bottom so it gave a floor and wallpaper effect. I placed my happy couple on the right side in front of the wallpaper, and the maid to the left of them, waiting for the car to come up.

Next I added a black banner with the sentiment "Happily Ever Afterlife" on it above my happy couple and a "press me" button over the button for the EZ-Lights. I finished the card off with a few sequin bats that I got in the dollar section of Target years ago!

And then... the magic of the ghostly glow...

Adventures Abroad Continues, In Italy!

Hi friends! I hope you've enjoyed the Beth Duff Designs Winter Release so far! I get to share the newest in the Adventures Abroad line, Italy. I absolutely adore this line, and this newest set is a fantastic addition.

I was shown a tutorial about for a card that was super 3D with floating floor. I started by creating the background using a MFT brick stencil, two gray Distressed Oxide inks, and Tonic Expanding Mousse.  In the future I would cut it down to be smaller than the cardbase like a card front layer would normally be, but this was still a bit of trial and error for me!

The floor is cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" and is scored at 3/8", 4 3/8", and 4 6/8". The short score ends up attaching to the back wall, while the longer end is used at the front of the card. I used a Pen Blade to cut small pieces out of the floor where I wanted my pieces to stand. 

I chose to use 4 pillars, 2 scooters, and of course, the chef! They were colored using Copic markers. I can't remember all of the colors I used, but the pillars are W-1, W-5, and W-7! They are standing up by using small paper "L brackets", to create these I cut several small strips of cardstock and folded them in half. I glued them to the underside of the floor first, then the back of my pieces. 

I staggered the pillars, then I put the scooters in front of the back set. I wanted my chef front and center. I finished my card off using the "Grazie" sentiment, which I love the font of! I heat embossed this in a Wow Gold Pearl powder.

As a bonus, I made a bookmark, I used the small pieces from the set in different light colors, stamped at random. Next, I stamped my favorite sentiment from the sent in black VersaFine Clair ink. I finished this quick project off with a light blue ribbon, knotted simply at the top.

Magical Friendship Week

Good to see you again! I'm so excited you're joining us for the Kindred Stamps & Witt and Sass Stamp Company "Magical Friendship Week" Collaboration! Our teams have put together some absolutely magical cards for you and today, I get to share mine!

I used the lion from Witt and Sass's Magical Creature stamp set and colored him up with Copics. He is paired with a boy and owl from the Kindred Stamps Student's of Magic stamp set which are also colored with Copics. For the owl, I used very little color, but did chose to dot the wing and a few other small sections to imitate a Snowy Owl. 

Next, I used a retired stencil from Clarity Stamps of a gnarly tree with a square from to create a background. I used Catherine Pooler inks for the grass and sky, from bottom to top, the colors are Eucalyptus, Skyline, Juniper Mist, Black Jack, and finally, Midnight. After lifting the stencil, I did go back and blend some color into the square frame of the stencil to diffuse the bright white that was left behind.

I didn't love the tree being white either, so I took two shades of brown Distress Crayons and colored it in, after coloring it in, I used a dry paint brush to kinda blend the colors together and soften the look. I placed my owl on a tree branch, and the lion and boy in the grass below. To add depth to the card, I glued to owl down with Tombow Mono Glue, but used dimensionals to pop the boy and lion up a touch.

I absolutely love this sentiment from Students of Magic, so I had to use it. I found an off white paper in a Graphic 45 stack to heat emboss the sentiment on to. I used a Lindy's Gang embossing powder (seriously fantastic powder!!) Looking through my die cuts I wasn't finding a shape or style that I loved so I opted to just fussy cut around the sentiment. 

I mounted my card face onto a sheet of patterned vellum that looked like stars, then mounted them both to a purple card base. To finish the card off, I added a few sequins from the Kindred Stamps Galaxy Shaker Pack.

Day of the Dead!

Hi friends, Rachel here! I get to share with you my projects using the newest set, Day of the Dead. I absolutely adore this set, and hope you enjoy my two projects using it.

My first card, I colored up the little singing boy and the ragged skeleton for a card together. I'm not amazing at doing darker skin tones, but I felt like the little boy came out well, if a little darker than I had intended. His hair is shades of grey with it lighter on the top to look like a spotlight is hitting him and making it shine.

For the skeleton, I used E0000, E41, and E51 to create the bone color. I fussy cut them both, then went back with a Pen Blade to cut the fine details between the rib cage out. In my opinion, small details like this really complete the look for images like this.

 

Finally, I colored up two of the banner strings with bright colors, and went back with Copic white and a fine detail paint brush to give the illusion of a cut out. 

To create the background, I used a  wood floor Penny Black die cut that I picked up from Blitsy, and layered it over a sheet of black card stock. 

I like the bilingual sentiments in the set, I like to pretend that I can speak Spanish, when in reality I know about enough to ask where the bathroom is. HA! I stamped "La familia es todo." in Catherine Pooler ink on white card stock, and used stitched die to cut it out. After I had placed it, I trimmed it up, rather than trying to cut a straight line on my own (it never turns out.)

My next card, I kept very simple. I wanted to color the pup up, because well, I love dogs! So I colored him in shades of brown, then covered it with a light Warm Gray, to give him a bit of a ragged look. I added a Warm Gray shadow below him.

I decided to do a colored card base, and this orange just felt right, so I used it for both the base and for the sentiment, which is actually two of the sentiments in "Day of the Dead". 

I used a Birch Press die I snagged at Kraftgali for the white card face. I added a few of the Day of the Dead Shaker Pack sequins in bunches in a few random spots on the card to finish it off.

Fall is Here!

Happy Fall ya'll!

I'm a big fan of Fall, the weather, the clothes, the Pumpkin Spice lattes... The September Release at Witt and Sass Stamp Co is full of cute, spooky, and just plain wonderful Fall themed sets and new embellishments too!

My card today features the new Falling for Scarecrow set. I created a background using Yupo Paper and Alcohol inks from Kraftgali. Then used the Alcohol Lift-Ink and the leaf included with the scarecrow to create a background, which I layered onto DCWV cardstock. 

The adorable little crow I colored up using a dark blue and different gray Copics multiple times, then I sat them on a little twine, like a power line!

My scarecrow was colored using Copics, then placed using Stampin Up dimensionals. I colored up a few pumpkins with Copics, added a little white detail, then covered with Nuvo clear glaze. 

Finally, I added the sentiment "Want to hang out?" from Falling for Scarecrow on the same DCWV cardstock and cut it out with a Lawn Fawn sentiment die cut.

Ode to England

What a fun day to share not one, but two stamp sets! 

I'm excited to share a project for the Beth Duff Designs and Witt and Sass collaboration blog hop. Both companies have new England themed stamp set coming out, and we thought why not tag team for a joint blog hop. The Beth Duff Designs set is Adventure Abroad - England. For Witt & Sass, we have a wonderful British sentiment set, Fabulously Gobsmacked.

First, I colored my London Bridge from the Adventure Abroad Set, using multiple shades of Copic Gray, and finished it off with some light blues for the lighted sections. I wanted to build a scene where it appeared my bus was about to head over the bridge (once it comes back down of course!) 

To do so, I chose a light gray cardstock to build my scene on to, depicting a grey skied London. With my Layered Clouds Stencil from Witt and Sass, I used some Altenew grey mini cube inks, and added bases of white. 

To create my river, I used different alcohol inks from Kraftgali and cut my Yupo paper down to fit. For my buildings, I used two colors of tan cardstock and the Sweet Stamp Shop City Border die cut, which I cut bits from to create a unique city that was layered. 

Next, it was time to pick my sentiments from Fabulously Godsmacked! This set has SO many good words and phrases that it was hard to pick. I landed on two, "I'm gutted" because my sweet Scottish friend, Connie, says it to me often, and "I miss you" because it is true, I miss her! (She's totally getting this card... eventually!)

I placed them on some mini banners from an old Stampin' Up kit (hoarder here!) and stamped them with VersaFine Clair black ink! I placed them on dimensionals to really make them pop, and staggered them in the sky. 

I used some DCWV burgundy card stock to layer the card face on and then grabbed one of the tan sheets I used for the buildings for the base.

You Slay Me

Every once in a while, I get a stamp set that makes me feel like a giddy teenager who lives off of soda, sitcoms, and any food I can find (had to fill that hollow leg!) Well, now my leg is no longer hollow and I can't drink soda without getting sick, but I still love a good sitcom!

This month, I received "Slay" from Kindred Stamps's July Release to showcase! This set takes me back to when vampire hunters and their friends could entertain me for hours.

My first project, I decided to go a bit Goth. I used a Sizzix embossing folder and dry embossed a sheet of grey cardstock. Next, I ran Ink On 3's embossing pad over the embossed paper and used Brutus Monroe's Ebony Embossing Powder to heat emboss the dry embossed sheet.

I colored my vampire hunter and her boyfriend (who happens to be a vampire!) with Copic markers. I've really been working on coloring blonde hair in more realistic shades, fewer yellows, more earth tones. I built a scene using some Halloween die cuts, the creepy tree and the gravestones really felt right for me. To finish the card, I used a die cut from Stampin' Up's Project Life set and picked out this perfect sentiment which was heat embossed with Brutus Monroe Alabaster powder.

My next project, I used my characters in planner, I kept it simple with just some washi tape between days, the characters and a few star stickers.

It is clean enough to see what I have on my plate, but still makes me smile when I see it!

Last, I had to showcase the hunter's sidekicks. Sidekicks come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they are mentors that are always willing to step in and help kick butt, sometimes they're your best friend who may look sweet and innocent, but will shank a vamp to keep you safe.

I used some Graphic 45 paper that I received from a friend for the background. I found some pretty orange twine and another patterned paper that was orange to build my layout, the sidekicks went on Stampin' Up Layering Square die cuts. 

I pulled the other banners from the Stampin' Up Project Life die cut pack and used them for the sentiment. You know that my favorite sentiments are buildable, this set does not disappoint on that front! Catherine Pooler's Manderine Spice ink matched the oranges on the card already, so I used it to stamp out the sentiment.

The sets from this month are a bit of a throwback, and we hope you enjoyed the trip down memory lane with us. The Kindred Stamps team, myself included, hope that you've enjoyed reading about my card makes for this release.

Addison's First Shaker Card!

So, my amazing little sister, Addison, has been itching to try a few of the more taxing card making techniques. I love her desire to learn and the fact that she loves to craft with me, so when she asked to make a shaker card, and I actually had the energy to teach, I said "yes!" Plus, it's been a little while since you've all heard from the Beth Duff Designs, Jr Design Team!

She started by coloring up one of the newest digi releases at Beth Duff Designs, Make Waves. She loved the whale and had to make it a "Shamu" whale... it's a thing in our house, my explaining that "Shamu" is the name of a Killer or Orca whale, and her insisting I'm wrong. Again, she is wanting to learn new things and I recently gave her my old set of Stampin' Up alcohol markers to let her have practice with blending. She used a black Copic on the whale, and the SU markers on the water he is spouting. She also chose to color the puffer fish and the crab. She cut them out by hand.

One of her favorite tools is the Big Shot, so we die cut her sentiment out, which I absolutely adore. I had visions of using it to cover most of a card, and she stole it from me! Next, we broke out another new to her tool, the Blending Tool and Distress Oxide Mermaid Lagoon ink (which I got from Kindred Stamps, you can use that link for 10% off your first purchase!) Addison loved seeing the change once we sprayed water on it and patted it dry. Very watery!

Her next step was building the shaker... let me tell you, I was a bit spacey so we went around in a few circles on that one. Picking the sequins colors was probably her favorite part, I have... a lot of options, but ultimately, she chose Pretty Pink Posh's Strawberry Burst and Sparkling Clear Mix so they stood out from her blue background.

She also chose a sheet from Sunny Studio's Rainbow Bright paper pack that I picked up at Crafty Doodle Chick that looked like waves but wasn't blue, to create her ocean look. She wanted her sentiment tipped a little so we die cut the paper at an angle to make that happen. She chose her water babies placement all on her own!

All in all, I think her first shaker was a success, she now understands that it is pretty time consuming, and that I need to nap before we start one! (True story!)

The Next Space Explorers!

Guys... guys... GUYS! I am SO excited to share these projects! Kindred Stamps released their new set The Next Space Explorers stamps on May 25th, and to say that I geeked out a lot!

I had so much fun coloring these guys using the no-line technique and Ink On 3's Fade-Out ink, and Copic markers. 

I started by making my first foiled card! I was so nervous that I was going to screw things up. I used Altenew's Warp Speed Stencil that I picked up at Crafty Doodle Chick, DecoFoil's glue pen, and red foil. 

I also tried out my Tonic Studio's Silver Mica spray to create the middle layer of paper for my card, and the sentiment is stamped on a piece too!

My android and blind dude are totally best friends and there for each other through everything!

Next, the Captain is a fan of Earl Grey tea and to me it felt perfect for a gift card holder (some lucky nerd is going to get a Starbucks gift card with it!)

I got him colored up and mounted him on piece of patterned paper from the Sunny Studios Rainbow Bright pack, again from Craft Doodle Chick!

I finished him off by giving him a little shadow with a grey watercolor marker. 

My last card is the chief security officer... He was a little more difficult for me to color, and it shows. But I tried my best, and used the colors I had! I will say, I am pleased with the silvery look of his weapon and sash!

To keep him the hero of the card but not have him too dull, I used the new paper stack that one of the gals in the Kindred Stamps Fan Club shared, and I clearly needed, Echo Park's Space Academy! I grabbed my previously unused Stampin' Up Starbust die (seriously, I've had it for like two years guys...) and cut my patterned paper with it and backed it with dimensionals. I mounted it on a piece of black cardstock.

My last touch was grabbing a random banner I had in my hoarding stash... I may need actual help guys... to use for the sentiment. I love the buildable sentiments that Kindred Stamps does and this one may be one of my favorites! I finished it off with a nice DoublClick Skittle that pulls out the red planets on the paper.

That's Amore!

It's always fun and nerve-racking to try a new technique, well, this month I've tried two! 

Today, I get to share my very first slider card.  I had bought and then lost some slider elements from Crafty Doodle Chick, so I had to just YouTube it and go.  When I saw the new Puppy Love Stamp Set that releases this week with Kindred Stamps, I knew I had to try a slider! 

My pups were colored using Ink On 3's Fade-Out Ink and Copic markers. I fussy cut them out by hand. 

I started by making a table cloth looking paper using Carta Bella's Buffalo Plaid stencil and a red Memento Luxe Ink. I felt like it looked like the pups were on a picnic. Next, I used a Lawn Fawn Slider die to determine where the pups would be. Originally, I had planned on placing them with their bodies where the slider was, but that didn't work out, the pennies showed. Instead, I used their heads! I attached a thin light brown twine to each of their mouths to simulate some pasta. 

Next, I built the background with a navy piece of cardstock, a dauber and Brilliance Moonlight White ink, a star stencil, and Encore Champagne ink. 

Last, I took the "that's amore" sentiment and stamped it onto white cardstock using black VersaFine ink and cut it out using a Spellbinder die.

May the Fourth Be With You

 Rejoice Geeks and Nerds alike! May the Fourth is with us!

Ok, so maybe that was a little over the top... maybe. But, I have to say, as the date loomed closer, I got more and more excited. I made sure that my fluffy bear warrior shirt was clean, my friends all knew what was coming, and of course, made cards! 

 I have had a few droids and a young, upcoming mind warrior, from Kindred Stamps Galactic Adventures: The Sequel, colored for a few months and just couldn't decide what to do with them.  Well, my inspiration came at last!  I decided on a desert theme for my first card. I used a piece of gold shimmer cardstock and hand cut a dune shape out. I wanted lots of layers and used two different blues to sandwich a layer of white. Finally, I took Brilliance Copper ink and stamped the sentiment from Kindred Stamps Galactic Adventures.

My next card, I wanted to do some light swords for the background. I stamped out a patterned background and colored the handles with a grey Copic. Next, I used Nuvo's red jewel toned drops and I filled in the long parts, then I filled in the rest of the paper with Copic R89 to give a dark red color.

I colored in the villain in varying shades of grey and black and fussy cut him out. I felt like he needed to stand out from the background a bit so I trimmed down a piece of paper and used silver Nuvo drops and kinda swirled it around and filled the paper. I mounted it all on a dark grey glimmer card base.

Space... Explorers and Even A Space Ship!

December's release for Kindred Stamps is going to blow your mind! So many Fandoms covered, so much epicness, so many amazing cards! I have been working on some of these cards for over a month... I'm slow ok?

It was really difficult for me to pick which project to blog about. Ultimately, I chose the one that took me out of my comfort zone the most!  Molly, my BFF/co-creative team member, asked me months ago if I would make a box card. I immediately shut her down. SO not something I was up to doing!

Well, for this Space Explorers stamp set, it just felt like the right type of project. So, I set out to find a good tutorial since I had ZERO clue as to what I was doing. I found Sandi Maclver's Tutorial and it was perfectly step-by-step and easy to pause/rewind to find steps I was missing.  Her blog also has directions for cut sizes for the layered panels.

I chose some Stampin' Up, retired (because I need to use the paper I've hoarded rather than buying more!) DSP and their retired black chalk ink paper, it's a heavier cardstock and gives a sturdy feel to any projects I use it on. These became my side panels and went basically everywhere!  My card base is an 8.5"x11" Stampin' Up Basic Gray.

I chose to color my characters with several different alcohol markers, including Copics (ALWAYS!), Brutus Monroe's Stylefile Markers (my referral link), and possibly a few retired Stampin' Up Blendabilities! My sweet friend Marcia has been helping my with my black coloring. I am pretty pleased with the way my black is no longer a flat color. 

The space ship is colored with every grey I own. I like to think it looks pretty darn good!

I placed the two characters I feel are important in front and the supporting characters in the second row. I do wish the box was slightly wider to fit them all in and allow them to be easily seen. As it is, you want to pick the card up and explore if from every angle.

For my sentiment on the front panel, I chose "Go Boldly" and used Delecata Metallic Gold. It took a couple of layers to make it stand up well.  I took the Delecata Metallic Silver for the sentiment on the back. Then finished the card off with a com!

All in all, I absolutely loved making this card and can't wait for the perfect occasion to gift it!
