Crabby Card

Hello again friends,

I am so excited to show you my card for today! I played with Sassy and Crafty's Sassy but Sweet Stamp set. This set features an adorable mermaid and fantastic "king" crab along with some amazing sentiments.

I decided to stamp the crab from Sassy but Sweet for my card today. I stamped him using Ink On 3's Fade Out Ink and colored him with Copics. To add a bit of extra fun, for the gems on his crown, I used clear rhinestones colored red using a Copic. I also stamped each of the shells from Sassy but Sweet a few times to color in different fun bright shades, again using Copic markers.

Once I had finished coloring, I focused on the background next. I used black cardstock and the Mermaid Tails Stencil for this. I used my i-Brush Blender Brushes and Distress Oxide inks in various shades of blue and one purple to create a watery feel. I added a few spritzes of watered down Ink on 3 Liquid Pixie Dust to add some shimmer to the background.

Next, I cut out Kindred Stamps "Sorry" word die. For the bottom layer I used a purple scrap with a kind of watercolor or bubbled look to it, and for the top layer I used a blue glitter cardstock scrap. The sentiment I stamped on to a silver cardstock scrap and heat embossed it with a metallic light purple WOW embossing powder. I trimmed this down.

When it came time to build my card, I layered my dark watery sheet over a light purple card base. TIP: I like to buy card bases and envelopes in bulk from box stores when I find them on sale, this saves my energy so I'm not constantly cutting and scoring card bases. Once the card front was adhered to the card base, I glued the "sorry" layers toward the top center of the card. I added a strip of Thin Double Thick Foam Tape to the back of my "I've been crabby" sentiment strip and positioned it under but crossing into the "sorry" layers.

I added my king crab to a mini wobbler to give him a fun little interactive element and positioned him towards the center(ish) of the card. To finish the card, I added the shells that I had previously colored up and a few clear sequins.

Foiling with Ocean Royalty!

Hello all!

I am so excited to share my project for today with you! Our Kindred Stamps team is teaming up with the Therm-O-Web team to show off how beautifully our products work together. I'm showing off the new Kindred Stamps "Ocean Royalty" and using a few different Therm-O-Web products with it.

Now, I don't normally do step-by-step photos, but our fans in the Kindred Stamps Fan Club, said they like the breakdown of how a card is made, so... here's my attempt for you.

I started with the "Long Hair" stencil and the coveted Purple Tape. I love this low tack tape that allows me to position stencils, dies, etc without ruining my projects by tearing the cardstock!

Next, I used the AMAZING Stencil Pal to spread the Deco Foil Transfer Gel over the stencil. Before I move on, I have to tell you, the Stencil Pal is a game changer. I always struggle to get a smooth even coverage with any stencil medium, with some mediums it's not such a problem, but when you're foiling, you want a nice smooth coverage so your foil doesn't pit or look cracked. You use a palette knife to put a little on the edge and then it's easy-peasy form there!

I had already watercolored my characters using a Tombow Blender and Stampin' Up Stamp 'n' Write markers. I wanted to give my mermaid a shiny tale, so I added Ink On 3's Liquid Pixie Dust on a detailing paintbrush to really make her shine.

 While I added that sparkly, I ran my stencil through my laminating machine, covered with the Deco Foil Lapis Watercolor Transfer Sheet and some parchment paper. This is one foil that I have been dying to get my hands on, I loveeee how perfect the blue and silver played with the "Long Hair" stencil from Kindred Stamps.

Now, I wasn't in love with the white behind the foil since I was going for a water scene. I decided to try ink blending over the already foiled stencil. I used Distress Oxide Broken China and a makeup brush, then wiped it down with a microfiber cloth. I'm pleased to say, IT WORKED!

My next step was to create a beach for the gentleman to stand on. I mixed some DecoArt Media Texture Sand Paste with the Deco Foil Mextallix Gel - Champagne Mist. 

I got to see the Metallix Gel at Creativation for the first time, and I LOVE how smooth this product is, but for this project, I just needed it to have a bit more texture. I'm super happy with how well it mixed.

My next step was using the Metallix White Pearl Gel, with a small amount of Pinata Black Alcohol ink. I LOVE the color of the white pearl but I needed a bit of a rock color so I went ahead and mixed it up. 

I used this mix to create a small rock on the left side of the background. I wanted it to be rough looking so I made sure not to smooth it out too much.

Next, I used Ink On 3's Detail Ink to stamp out my sentiment on a scrap of paper. 

I used my Cut A Line from My Sweet Petunia and a Pen Blade to cut it down to a nice size. I love that I can reduce my waste and end up with a nice looking sentiment using the Cut A Line.

Next, I started to build my card. I used Therm-O-Web's Memory Tape Runner XL to add my background to a blue cardstock. I glued the mermaid and prince in place using foam tape on their upper bodies and iCraft Ultra Bond Adhesive on their lower bodies so they stuck to my rock and beach.

I finished the card off by adding my sentiment with a bit of foam tape, and a few shell sequins to the beach using Therm-O-Web Zots Bling.

Let's Stick Together!

Hello again friends!

I'm absolutely in love with this month's Kindred Stamps new release line up. I got to play with "Stick Together", which features two adorable hedgehogs! The sentiments on this set cover all sorts of occasions too.

I made two cards, my first card is fairly simple, I used Kraft paper on top of a white base. On the craft paper, I used the heart from "Stick Together" and stamped it randomly about halfway up the card using a red Distress Oxide ink.

I used the hedgehog on his back and colored him using Copic Earth tones. I also colored up a heart using light pinks then cut them both out and had the little guy hold the heart. 

I picked the "I love you even when you're prickly" sentiment and stamped it on a white banner. To finish the card off, I added a few Queen & Co pokey embellishments. Like I said, simple, but I think whomever ends up receiving this card will smile!

My next card is a little... more! I love this little sitting hedgehog, and the butterfly is just so cute. I colored this hedgehog up a little lighter. I colored the butterfly orange and had him land on the hedgehog's nose. I bent the butterfly in the middle so one wing was up. 

To create the background, I used the Witt & Sass Hill Builder Stencil (no longer in business 😞). For the grass, I blended Catherine Pooler Mardi Gras and Eucalyptus. The sky is a blend of Catherine Pooler Baby Boy and Skylight.

I took Memory Box Stitched Cloud dies and covered them in Ink On 3's Liquid Pixie Dust using a paint brush (I covered 4 clouds with only 2 drops, and while the picture doesn't show it well, they are heavily covered in sparkles). Next, I took my Tag #1 die from The Stamp Doctor, and die cut my sentiment, which I stamped in Catherine Pooler Mandarin Spice ink. I mounted my card onto a gold foiled base from Michaels.

Catcher of the Beasts CAS Card

Today, I'm here with my take on a CAS(ish) card. We were trying to find inspiration for a make and take for the Simon Says Create event later this month since Kindred Stamps is hosting a Make and Take table. We needed to know which shade of green ink to use, so I got inky!

Now, I didn't have the stamp set that will be used for the event (shocking, I know!) so instead, I pulled out Cather of Beasts to try out the concept instead!

I started by stamping my gentleman using Memento Tuxedo Black then do a rough fussy but around him. I placed the cut out image on my card front, but did not tape him down. I took the little plant beast and stamped him several times using Distress Oxide in Pine Needles ink. I kept the plant to the bottom half of the page so they kind of grouped around my gentleman. 

I colored up my gentleman and used a few dimensionals to pop him up off the card. I used Catherine Pooler Icing On The Cake to stamp the sentiment. Then I mounted the card front on a pre-cut brown card base that matched the color of the sentiment.

Normally, I am a fan of embellishments and couldn't stand to leave an image uncolored but I felt like this simplicity worked for Catcher of the Beasts quite well! Hopefully you have enjoyed my take on a CAS card, I can't wait to see what you chose to do with Catcher of the Beasts yourselves!

Adventures Abroad Continues, In Italy!

Hi friends! I hope you've enjoyed the Beth Duff Designs Winter Release so far! I get to share the newest in the Adventures Abroad line, Italy. I absolutely adore this line, and this newest set is a fantastic addition.

I was shown a tutorial about for a card that was super 3D with floating floor. I started by creating the background using a MFT brick stencil, two gray Distressed Oxide inks, and Tonic Expanding Mousse.  In the future I would cut it down to be smaller than the cardbase like a card front layer would normally be, but this was still a bit of trial and error for me!

The floor is cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" and is scored at 3/8", 4 3/8", and 4 6/8". The short score ends up attaching to the back wall, while the longer end is used at the front of the card. I used a Pen Blade to cut small pieces out of the floor where I wanted my pieces to stand. 

I chose to use 4 pillars, 2 scooters, and of course, the chef! They were colored using Copic markers. I can't remember all of the colors I used, but the pillars are W-1, W-5, and W-7! They are standing up by using small paper "L brackets", to create these I cut several small strips of cardstock and folded them in half. I glued them to the underside of the floor first, then the back of my pieces. 

I staggered the pillars, then I put the scooters in front of the back set. I wanted my chef front and center. I finished my card off using the "Grazie" sentiment, which I love the font of! I heat embossed this in a Wow Gold Pearl powder.

As a bonus, I made a bookmark, I used the small pieces from the set in different light colors, stamped at random. Next, I stamped my favorite sentiment from the sent in black VersaFine Clair ink. I finished this quick project off with a light blue ribbon, knotted simply at the top.

THE HORROR!

Hello again,

I have FOUR cards to share with you today using the new Kindred Stamps set "The Horror"! Now I normally don't get "into" the darker side of Halloween, but this set man... it brought my imagination to life.

I started with the murderous clown, it's hard to see with the lighting, but his outfit is colored in light shades of grey and blue. I added accents of red on his hair, shoes, and balloon. I finished him off with some Tonic Glossy drops. 

I added the orange chevron ribbon from American Crafts and mounted the card face onto an orange piece of cardstock. To finish it off, the "You're a scream" sentiment was stamped with Delicata Black ink.

Next, I played with the mummy! This guy is colored in about 12 shades of off-white/tan Copics. I used the Spiderweb stencil from Echo Park with Red VersaFine ink and Black Delicata ink to make my background.

If you know me, you know that I'm not a big fan of tags... they're hard for me to work with! But this one was perfect for this card. I topped it with an Echo Park enamel dot and stamped two of the sentiments in VersaFine Red ink, then I inked up my finger and smudged it around the outside of the tag. 

I backed both the tag and the card face with black card stock. Last, I took Studio Katia Clear Round Drops and colored a few with my black Copic, then placed the black and a few clear drops on the card.

My next card, I featured the pieced together man, AND the new Brick Stencil from Kindred Stamps! I used Distress Oxides in Candied Apple, Vintage Photo, Black Soot, and then softened the blend with Antique Linen to create my background on Kraft paper. 

My monster is colored in shades of green and gray Copics, with a touch of black. I mounted my brick paper onto a piece of Echo Park's Autumn paper stack. 

Again, I went for two sentiment, the built birthday sentiment I stamped in Delicata Black ink, and the "I love you to pieces" is stamped in a dark green VersaFine ink. Both are on banners from an old Stampin' Up kit. I finished the card off in off-white and black Echo Park enamel dots.

My last card, well, it's a labor of the mind! I recently found this house from Stampin' Up and it is kinda the perfect size for my Kindred Stamps people! It is colored with Copics, I then stamped the little walkway, using the rocks from SU set multiple times. My lawn is different shades of green, the sky is black and dark gray Copics. My murder is colored with Copics, and then I added Nuvo Glossy drops on the blood on the knife to make it glisten. 

My sentiment, I got super excited to use a round die for, don't ask me why, I just feel like no sentiments fit on them and got excited this did! Well the big white circle looked weird... so clearly I needed to "murder" it up. I took Catherine Pooler ink in a dark red and smeared my fingerprint across it a few times, then stamped the "Stab you're it" sentiment on it using VersaFine Claire in black. 

Apparently I have a sick mind... who knew!? I hope you enjoyed my take on "The Horror".

Magical Friends!

Hello again, are you sick of me yet friends? Too bad! I have more fun things to share and you need to see them all!

Today's fun, is brought to you by Witt and Sass Stamp Company! When Amy showed me her Magical Friends set, I was SO excited. These cuties started off as digis and are now full blown clear stamps! I've got THREE projects to share with you today!

I started out by no-line coloring the friends with Ink On 3's Fade Out ink, the little smartypants bird almost killed me... but I did it! Next, I fussy cut them out, and then they just sat for a little while. I was so excited that I had zero ideas. Opps!

Then, I started looking at the other supplies that Witt and Sass has launched... and that Layered Dot stencil in the right colors, looked to me pretty magical! Then, I looked through the dies I have, because I do a ton of die cutting... and I realized I have this amazing box card by Pink and Main that I got from Kraftgali months ago but haven't used yet. Suddenly, I knew what I was doing!

I started with a navy base, I love dark bases for box cards, I find they are forgiving and when I'm messy on accident (constantly) it doesn't screw over my project since the dark paper is more forgiving. Next, I knew I wanted to use the flying keys, I decided to heat emboss them in gold on vellum. I hit the inside of the keys with a gold Wink of Stella pen, and the wings, I used the white Wink of Stella, and topped it with clear Wink of Stella once it was dry. I used some small silver star sequins from Pretty Pink Posh to cover the glue dots I used to hold the vellum to the card base. This became the card background.

I chose the brave and patient friends to be on this card, I feel like they are a good pair of companions, and well, they look good together! After I built the card base, and placed the friends, I started working on building the extra elements to polish the look of the card. My stencil came out to play, I started with purple Distress Oxide and brushed it over the white card stock, then I took the Dots Background Builder Stencil and a iridescent silver ink with a blender tool to the top of the purple. I added a few large silver stars from Pretty Pink Posh to the side panels. After I die cut and affixed them to the card, it was time to pick the sentiment. On box cards, I like to use a sentiment on the exterior and interior of the card. For the inside, I picked "You are magical!".

Finally, I need to finish the outside of the card. I brought the flying keys back out and used my lightest grey ink cube from my Altenew set to create a light, simple background for the front. The front sentiment is perfect for these two friends "I'm glad we're friends" which I heat embossed onto the same navy card stock and used a silver powder. To finish the card completely, I cut down a piece of white card stock to fit on the back, to give me a writing space, I added a single flying key in the light grey to tie it all together!

My next project, I decided to break out a few new stamps I picked up at 7 Kids Craft Store to build a spooky forest scene. I started by blending the greyscale Altenew inks, I worked lightest to darkest and finished the bottom with black MementoLuxe ink. Next, I took the Lavinia Scared Tree stamp from 7 Kids and stamped it using brown Distress Oxide Ink 3 times.

I wanted to create a magical protection spell, with my spirit animal, a unicorn, and the Lavinia Unicorn 2 was perfect for that since it's a silhouette stamp. I heat embossed him using a mixture of Brutus Monroe's Mermaid and Rainbow embossing powders.  He looks iridescent and slightly sparkly, like a spell!

I added my witty friend to the card and finished the card off with the "Happy birthday to my favorite muggle" sentiment from Magical Creatures. For the sentiment, I stamped it then spritzed with a shimmer spray, which ended up causing the ink to bleed, but it looked magic spell like to me, so I went with it. I used a tattered edge die cut for it.

My last card, I was running out of steam and decided to keep it simpler,. I still had the clever friend from Magical Friends to showcase, and well, I wanted to make a shaker card using the Kindred Stamps Little Green Men Shaker Pack that I had just gotten.

I started by picking a neutral colored DSP from a retired Stampin' Up pad and cutting it down to size for the background. Next, I used two sizes from the Stampin' Up's star die cuts to create a "hallow" star for my shaker portion. I used the center star that was cut and outlined it in dimensional line strips to bump star up and then added the Little Green Men shaker pack and a few Pretty Pink Posh small silver stars (I'm almost out of these and really need to order more!) to create a pretty, magical looking star.

Then, I used the center star and another small, white die cut star and stamped "For you're outstanding achievement..." and " I award you 100 points! Well done!" in black ink. I added my clever friend next to the large star, and then hand placed a few sequins by the smaller stars to finish the card!

Beth Duff Designs - Spring Release

Hi friends! I'm excited for you to join us on our first Beth Duff Designs Creative Team blog hop! Our Spring Release has 8 beautiful sets. I'm sharing with you Adventure's Abroad - Paris. I absolutely love this set, the images are amazing and the words are so pretty!

Before we get to the good stuff, I want to invite you to join our Facebook event to see all of the fun cards our team has made using the new sets!

I started by using the Eiffel Tower, I found a beautiful image of it all lit up at night and used it as my inspiration. I used Copics to color in a red and yellow glow. I made the structure's landings a light grey.  

For my background, was made using Black Distress Oxide ink and my Clarity Brushes, I wish the color had come out darker, but I ended up with a dusky evening sky.  I took my white, Moonlight Smooch and dotted stars in the sky.  

I added a strip of solid grey cardstock to add a "cement" base to the tower. Next, I built the grassy lawn using Your Next Stamps's Grass Edge die, I cut out multiple pieces and layered it top to bottom.  

 I added the cute little Poodle, colored using Copics and Brutus Monroe StyleFile markers. She felt sassy enough to complete the image.

Finally, I took a Sizzix banner die and cut out a strip of white cardstock. I stamped the "Bonjour" stamp unsing Delecata Red ink. It turned out fantastically and I'm not sure I can let it go! 

Next, I wanted to use the little images and the sentiments to create a background for this gorgeous girl. I took them individually and stamped them out using my new InkOn3 Embossing Ink, I was super happy with the coverage of the ink and the way it held the powder! The powder I used was Stampin' Up Iridescent Ice, it has a little bit of shimmer compared to just plain clear powder. 

Next, I took my new Tsukineko Radiant Neon in Electric Pink ink pad, with a sponge and did an emboss resist background.  I love the way it turned out.  My girl was colored using Copics. I LOVE her style and she was so fun to color.

Last, I took some retired Stampin' Up Gold Washi Tape and covered some white card stock with strips. I stamped the "Amour" using Black Stazon Ink. I'm not sure why, but the Stazon and I are not getting along  well so it took a few tries for me!

Spoonie Squad

So, if you don't know me well, you may not know that I am a "Spoonie". I have Fibromyalgia, simplified this means I suffer from overactive nerves, anxiety, depression, migraines, stomach problems, mid to extreme pain at any given time... the list goes on. Audra at Kindred Stamps, (that's my referral link, you'll get 10% off your first order and I will be rewarded too), was excited to create a stamp set to celebrate and give voice to myself, and those like me, the Spoonie community. "Spoonie" is a term used by those of us with chronic illnesses, chronic pain, and limited energy.

"Spoonie Squad" was released by Kindred Stamps last month, and it features an excellent assortment of sentiments, spoons, and a couple little leaves. I created 4 cards myself for the release.

First, I used silver embossing powder and the four unique spoons to create a border on both the top and bottom of the card, next I chose the sentiment. I felt like this one was a great celebration for my friends who suffer like me, I kept this card in cool colors, silver, white, and a little turquoise.  

My next card, I used the Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks and layered the colors light to dark to create a simple, but beautiful background. I felt a bit snarky, so I thought "you can just fork off" was perfect here.  I sandwiched the saying between two silver spoons.

Typically, I find myself doing a lot of layering but I wanted to keep this one simple so I used a corner punch to add a touch of elegance and finished it with dimensional tape to make the featured part pop from the base.

My next card, again, I kept simple but used more layers again. The black background makes the red and touches of green and silver pop. I used a single spoon with this sentiment to make the impact that much more powerful. I wanted to show off the leaves and put it in the corner.

My last card was a little more work. I chose a nice green base and used these beautiful roses from So Suzy Stamps to create a pretty little card. I colored them in using Copic and StyleFile Markers by Brutus Monroe.

I felt like the glitter tape behind the sentiment makes the impact of the sentiment a little better. This sentiment is super powerful for me. My anxiety, energy, and pain levels are always putting a kibosh on my plans. My friends and family always seem to have to move on without me.

It's been a while since I was able to create a blog post just because I wanted to. I am SO happy that I was able to finally get these up for all to see! My disease means a lot of missed events, laying around in pain, trying all sorts of medicines, both homeopathic and prescription, little to no answers, glares from people that think I'm faking, concerned looks from strangers, and so much more. I am beyond grateful to have crafting in my little world. Being able to create something beautiful makes my life qualify infinitely better, the friends that I've made in this community, and the friends I've brought to this community keep me going even on the hardest of days.

Something a Little Different!

Hey all!! This month's Kindred Stamps release is already here!! I'm EXTREMELY excited about this set and decided to try something a little different this month! 

First, I found a very neat Step Card Tutorial on Pinterest and knew it was right for Kindred Stamps new set, "Yo Ho"! I decided to create a dock for the pirate to stand on using a retired Stampin' Up Woodgrain background stamp on kraft paper. I cut small strips of the large block and drew on small back "nails" on the ends to make the wood planks.  I colored the pirate using various Copics and StyleFile Markers from Brutus Monroe.

Next, I used my new favorite, shiny origami paper to create the layers of water, the layer closer to the dock I left smooth. For the back layer to add more of a choppy waves feeling, I crumpled the paper up and added texture, then cut the top into a rolling wave look.  My base was made from retired Stampin' Up chalkboard paper, I am not sure what I'm going to do when I run out of this stuff, I love the thickness and weight of it!  

I wanted to create a kind of stormy sky to contrast with the pretty blue water. To do this, I smudged Tim Holtz Distress Oxide in Antique Linen over the black paper. After that dried I used Brilliance white ink and a dauber to create the clouds. I finished it off with a simple "Yo Ho" sentiment!  The back of the card can have a piece of white cardstock added to leave space for writing on.

My next card also features Kindred Stamps' "Yo Ho", I used Lawn Fawn's Shadow Box Card Die to created a light blue base. This die cut was VERY easy to use and created an awesome look!  I chose not to use any sort of sentiment on this one, but colored in the pretty lady and the ship again. 

I wanted the water to be a little different this time, I retrofitted the hills that come in the die kit with Wave CutUps from The Cat's Pajamas, I chose to do layers to add depth and add the ship to it.  I just got this amazing Cosmic Shimmer Glitter Kiss in Sahara Gold and decided it would be excellent to create a beach for pretty lady to stand on!  This brand comes with a built in sponge and so I dabbed it on and left it rough, it created a pretty, glittery, sandy beach.  Lastly, I finished the background off with clouds using a Lawn Fawn die! 

I hope you've all enjoyed my "something a little different" attempts this month.  Our release this month is much smaller than the past but personally I think the sets are fantastic! We've also got new Shaker Packs, and maybe another surprise up our sleeves, I can't wait for you to see!
