Space... Explorers and Even A Space Ship!

December's release for Kindred Stamps is going to blow your mind! So many Fandoms covered, so much epicness, so many amazing cards! I have been working on some of these cards for over a month... I'm slow ok?

It was really difficult for me to pick which project to blog about. Ultimately, I chose the one that took me out of my comfort zone the most!  Molly, my BFF/co-creative team member, asked me months ago if I would make a box card. I immediately shut her down. SO not something I was up to doing!

Well, for this Space Explorers stamp set, it just felt like the right type of project. So, I set out to find a good tutorial since I had ZERO clue as to what I was doing. I found Sandi Maclver's Tutorial and it was perfectly step-by-step and easy to pause/rewind to find steps I was missing.  Her blog also has directions for cut sizes for the layered panels.

I chose some Stampin' Up, retired (because I need to use the paper I've hoarded rather than buying more!) DSP and their retired black chalk ink paper, it's a heavier cardstock and gives a sturdy feel to any projects I use it on. These became my side panels and went basically everywhere!  My card base is an 8.5"x11" Stampin' Up Basic Gray.

I chose to color my characters with several different alcohol markers, including Copics (ALWAYS!), Brutus Monroe's Stylefile Markers (my referral link), and possibly a few retired Stampin' Up Blendabilities! My sweet friend Marcia has been helping my with my black coloring. I am pretty pleased with the way my black is no longer a flat color.

The space ship is colored with every grey I own. I like to think it looks pretty darn good!

I placed the two characters I feel are important in front and the supporting characters in the second row. I do wish the box was slightly wider to fit them all in and allow them to be easily seen. As it is, you want to pick the card up and explore if from every angle.

For my sentiment on the front panel, I chose "Go Boldly" and used Delecata Metallic Gold. It took a couple of layers to make it stand up well.  I took the Delecata Metallic Silver for the sentiment on the back. Then finished the card off with a com!

All in all, I absolutely loved making this card and can't wait for the perfect occasion to gift it!

Kindred Stamps - 500 Fan Club Members!

OMG! The middle of November marked an exciting event for us at Kindred Stamps, our Facebook Fan Club Page reached 500 members!! It's taken a little while (thanks to the holidays, and a USPS snag with getting things to me specifically! We still don't know where the first package is...) but we are excited to announce our 500 member giveaway blog hop!

Each of the Creative Team members got to pick a stamp set to giveaway in celebration and Audra rounded the package out with some of our amazing products that Kindred Stamps has to offer.

Our Fan Club is made up of all kinds of crafters, and we love seeing how they use Kindred Stamps products! If you haven't already a member, come join us!

On to my project! I picked the "Tower Princess" stamp set, Audra included some AMAZING unicorn washi tape, unicorn planner stickers, a neat rose gold key pen, and a GINGERBREAD shaker pack! Ya'll are lucky I'm willing to send these out... Really luck.

I decided to try a new thing, combined with a few of my favorites. I started with different colored blue and purple Fireworks Sprays, I soaked the paper a little too much and had to let it dry overnight. I hit it with a little shimmer spray as well to make it shine a little! The result is a beautiful "night sky" background.

Next, the floating lanterns! I used my Versamark ink with Stampendous Pirate Gold Embossing Powder (seriously my favorite gold embossing powder, a lot turn out too dark, and a few too yellow, this one, it's GOLD!) After I had hit the lanterns (which are outlines) with heat, I filled them in using an embossing marker, the largest lantern has a flower that I wanted to still show through so I only used the embossing marker in the outer parts. Again, I used the embossing powder and heat to finish the look. I used the 3 lanterns in a random pattern to fill the night sky up.

All this so far has been things I've done in the past and loved the look of; so now, something new! In several of the crafting Facebook pages I'm on I've seen the "eclipse" technique floating around. Most cards I've seen feature the "eclipse" on DSP, or colored images with little else on the card, which ends upbeautiful! But... I'm me and have to have more... I wanted to see if the technique would work with a heat embossed background. After I had finished the lanterns, I had used my Brother Scan n Cut to cut out "Dream" from my lantern filled night sky! It worked perfectly!!

Next, I mounted the night sky on some beautiful gold paper, to complete the "eclipse" I used SU Dimensionals to make the letters POP out of paper, not everyone leaves the little center pieces in the letters but I like the look so I did on mine. I added the sentiment to the thin strip of card I left free of lanterns using my MISTI and Stazon black ink.

My Tower Princess was colored using Copic markers, (and one lonely SU Stamp n Write Marker for the details on her dress).

We are SO excited that we have reached 500 members in our Fan Club! I know we've been quiet about this momentous event, but that was just because we've been working on a lot of things in the background. Such as... our giveaways, sales, the 12 Days of Christmas (if you haven't checked them out yet, you need to!!), oh, and I don't know RELEASES (this month's may be my favorite and I can't wait to share it)!!! Oh yeah, AND a celebration of the 500!

Kindred Stamps knows that we wouldn't be here without you. We thank you with every breath we take for making our dreams come true! In that spirit, we would like to give each and every one of you a prize, but gosh darn it, that just isn't feasible! So, we're doing the next best thing!
